In the 12th minute of the match, Alfredo Marconi tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Nuno Matos saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Paulo Martins in the 14th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Ferdinando Pierucci to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ferdinando Pierucci made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Paulo Mota in the 17th minute of play. Ferdinando Pierucci showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Paulo Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Francesco Mastrocola got free with Nuno Matos in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Brazil getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Waldir de Toledo hit a great ball.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francesco Mastrocola stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Alfredo Marconi came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Italy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfredo Marconi couldn't finish the play. Brazil's Renan Pinheiro was substituted for Gugu Arósio. The throw-in from Amedeo Costacurta in the 61st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Brazil's Renan Pinheiro. After some careless play in the Italy defense, Walter da Silva kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ferdinando Pierucci. The Italy fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ferdinando Pierucci should have stopped the shot. Brazil's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tiaguinho Matorin in the 69th minute. After taking down the ball on Brazil's corner Tiaguinho Matorin fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Ferdinando Pierucci quite easily take care of the ball. Italy's defense didn't have a chance, in the 71st minute, when Walter da Silva scored to the left of an out of position Ferdinando Pierucci, making the score, 1-3. When Alexander Zollino came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Italy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alexander Zollino couldn't finish the play. Nuno Matos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edoardo Alati in the 92nd minute of the match. 93 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Walter da Silva came free, but Ferdinando Pierucci reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
