But to his dismay, Willard Addison quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. USA's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ross Caldwell in the 14th minute. USA's Lyle Flanagan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wander Suzanne in the 20th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wander Suzanne in the 21st minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Lyle Flanagan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 22 minutes into the match, Charlotte FC's goal looked a bit too open when Willard Addison came free, but Clemente Clemente reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kaja Jamak in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lyle Flanagan saved USA from getting behind. Clemente Clemente made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. 43 minutes into the match, Willard Addison had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Clemente Clemente. Charlotte FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Willard Addison was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. A collision led to USA getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Darnell Joyce hit a great ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 5-1.

The supporters of USA booed when Charlotte FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. USA made a substitution. Charlotte FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Clemente Clemente made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-1. Lyle Flanagan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kareem Stoddard in the 74th minute. In the 75th match minute, Charlotte FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mitchell Curry to maneuver through the defense. Clemente Clemente showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Willard Addison, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Willard Addison in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Clemente Clemente prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of USA booed when Charlotte FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francesco Keller didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, USA's Miki Moco got a free kick in the 95th minute. 95 minutes into the match, Wander Suzanne sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Lyle Flanagan threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Wander Suzanne this time.
