Sport Lisboa e Benfica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Rostyslav Solodkyi in the 4th minute. If Emilian Zgabei had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Collin Grimm scored 0-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mänsur Rzayev, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the Azerbaijan defense, Emilian Zgabei kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mänsur Rzayev. The Azerbaijan fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mänsur Rzayev should have stopped the shot. Emilian Zgabei struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Mänsur Rzayev didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Lisboa e Benfica. After 24 minutes of play, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Emilian Zgabei made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mänsur Rzayev was left in no man's land by his defense there! Emilian Zgabei struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Mänsur Rzayev didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Azerbaijan's Mänsur Rzayev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emilian Zgabei in the 33rd minute of play. Du Lei Bin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mänsur Rzayev having to interfere. Emilian Zgabei received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Mänsur Rzayev tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 41st minute, Emilian Zgabei ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mänsur Rzayev was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. 44 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Emilian Zgabei sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mänsur Rzayev narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The Azerbaijan players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Sport Lisboa e Benfica were winning 1-4.

The wind increased when Aqil Mövsümov made the kick off in the second half. When Şair Baloğlanov fell near the penalty area in the 50th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Azerbaijan's protests and gave Şair Baloğlanov a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Sport Lisboa e Benfica booed when Azerbaijan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Şair Baloğlanov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Emilian Zgabei recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Azerbaijan's Mänsur Rzayev proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Azerbaijan from getting a goal against them. In the 57th minute, Emilian Zgabei made a precise shot to the right of Mänsur Rzayev. Azerbaijan's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-5. If Emilian Zgabei had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Emilian Zgabei could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Mänsur Rzayev made a huge save. Mänsur Rzayev was out of position in the 75 minute of play, and Emilian Zgabei capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Emilian Zgabei really showed his touch with that goal: 1-6. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Barış Birsoy during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Azerbaijan booed when Sport Lisboa e Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barış Birsoy didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 81st minute, Emilian Zgabei left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sport Lisboa e Benfica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-7. In the 87th minute, Emilian Zgabei reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mänsur Rzayev. The goal made the score 1-8. In the 94th minute, Mikayıl Malişov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
