The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ye Gang Cheng hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. In the 12th minute New England Minas were awarded a corner. Jörgen Frohm went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Jörgen Frohm got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Sérgio Viegas quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Tio Lio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Sérgio Viegas made a huge save. In the 14th match minute, Sport Açores e Benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Samuel Salgueiro to maneuver through the defense. In the 16th minute, Samuel Salgueiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 19th minute, Egídio Mesquita hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tio Lio during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 20th match minute, New England Minas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tio Lio to maneuver through the defense. When Tio Lio was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 23 minutes had been played. The supporters of Sport Açores e Benfica booed when New England Minas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tio Lio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rogério Vigário in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jeremy Nicholas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Sérgio Viegas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Oscar Nordmark in the 29th minute. Tony Pacheco blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sérgio Viegas having to make a save. Horácio Boaventura hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Ye Gang Cheng struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Sérgio Viegas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for New England Minas. Rogério Vigário fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeremy Nicholas having to interfere. Sérgio Viegas didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alperen Öksüz went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rogério Vigário was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Tony Pacheco left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The New England Minas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Oscar Nordmark might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sérgio Viegas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Oscar Nordmark ran back to his position shaking his head. 57 minutes into the match, Jörgen Frohm had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sérgio Viegas. Sport Açores e Benfica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jörgen Frohm was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Jacob Rocha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 69 minutes, Egídio Mesquita mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sport Açores e Benfica and the New England Minas players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sérgio Viegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oscar Nordmark in the 71st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Sport Açores e Benfica's zone, Oscar Nordmark stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sérgio Viegas came out of the goal and Oscar Nordmark tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Gervásio Vilhena fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sport Açores e Benfica's protests and gave Gervásio Vilhena a yellow card for diving instead. Gervásio Vilhena kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. In the 76th minute, Emmitt Benson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sérgio Viegas was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. In the 79th match minute, Sport Açores e Benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horácio Boaventura to maneuver through the defense. In the 81st minute of the match New England Minas got a corner. Sport Açores e Benfica's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Emmitt Benson ran over to the corner to take the kick. Emmitt Benson made a great header on New England Minas's corner, it was just that Sport Açores e Benfica's Sérgio Viegas managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 82nd minute Oscar Nordmark shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sérgio Viegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 86 minutes into the game, Emmitt Benson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-0. Sérgio Viegas was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Sérgio Viegas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tony Pacheco, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After 93 minutes of play, New England Minas's Emmitt Benson made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sérgio Viegas was left in no man's land by his defense there! Sérgio Viegas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tony Pacheco, who was totally free with the ball in the 97th minute. There was no doubt that New England Minas were the better team. New England Minas's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
