An unexpectedly hard shot by Danilo Isusko in the 4th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Jim Mitchell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tracey Dolan's late challenge caught a Club Deportivo Álvarez's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tracey Dolan helped the player get up and apologised. In the 7th minute, Mauro Oinatz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jim Mitchell was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Guillermo Manilan took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jim Mitchell. Jim Mitchell dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. 17 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alan Hvalica came free, but Jim Mitchell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19th minute, Santos FC's Tracey Dolan seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Tracey Dolan the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Santos FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Tracey Dolan had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Mauro Oinatz shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Jim Mitchell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guillermo Manilan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Victor Incendio might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jim Mitchell. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Victor Incendio ran back to his position shaking his head. 32 minutes into the game, Esteban Hvalica cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Jim Mitchell was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 37 minutes into the game, Club Deportivo Álvarez's Esteban Hvalica nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jim Mitchell made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. In the 43rd minute Guillermo Manilan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Mitchell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Esteban Hvalica stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arturo Marquez during the 50th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 50 played minutes Club Deportivo Álvarez got a freekick which was hit by Arturo Marquez. In the 51st minute of the match Kris Marks sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Farias skillfully saved the ball. Esteban Hvalica charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Esteban Hvalica the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Club Deportivo Álvarez was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Esteban Hvalica didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 64 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Kris Marks. In the 69th minute of the match, Esteban Hvalica tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jim Mitchell saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Jim Mitchell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Esteban Hvalica, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Louis Ragland kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bart Greenwood during the 74th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Victor Incendio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim Mitchell having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alan Hvalica got free with Jim Mitchell in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 89 minutes into the game, Club Deportivo Álvarez's Guillermo Manilan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jim Mitchell made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-7. 93 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Guillermo Manilan came free, but Jim Mitchell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Club Deportivo Álvarez played a much better game than Santos FC and deserved their victory. The Santos FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
