Michelangelo Merganiotis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 8th minute of the match, but Scarafia Ghost made a huge save. 11 minutes into the match, Go Ahead Eagles's goalkeeper Scarafia Ghost had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Michelangelo Merganiotis. 13 minutes into the game, Aleksander Petka recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Scarafia Ghost. Aleksander Petka showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. After some careless play in the AFC Ajax defense, Iustin Bâru kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Saruhan Vuralhan. The AFC Ajax fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Saruhan Vuralhan should have stopped the shot. If Markos Seremetidis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Markos Seremetidis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Scarafia Ghost made a huge save. 26 minutes into the game, AFC Ajax's Michelangelo Merganiotis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Scarafia Ghost made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. In the 30th minute of the match AFC Ajax got a corner. Go Ahead Eagles's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Veniamin Kountouratzis ran over to the corner to take the kick. It was a well-played corner which Michelangelo Merganiotis managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Markos Seremetidis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Scarafia Ghost made a huge save. The throw-in from Iakovos Efthimiadis in the 40th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by AFC Ajax's German Sarracino. When Lambis Zacharatos fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFC Ajax's protests and gave Lambis Zacharatos a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Go Ahead Eagles booed when AFC Ajax was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lambis Zacharatos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Michelangelo Merganiotis in the 51st minute of play forced Go Ahead Eagles's goalkeeper Scarafia Ghost to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 53rd minute Michelangelo Merganiotis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Scarafia Ghost saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Saruhan Vuralhan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from King 张林鹏 in the 54th minute of the match. After 56 played minutes Go Ahead Eagles got a freekick which was hit by Panos Kaklamanos. AFC Ajax's Aureo Morera was substituted for Li Kuan Hong. In the 58th match minute, Go Ahead Eagles was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Panos Kaklamanos to maneuver through the defense. AFC Ajax's Saruhan Vuralhan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Manga Mangkudikusumah in the 61st minute of play. Go Ahead Eagles made a substitution. Miltos Margaritidis replaced Panos Kaklamanos. Iakovos Efthimiadis made a great header on Go Ahead Eagles's corner, it was just that AFC Ajax's Saruhan Vuralhan managed to reach the ball for a save. 66 minutes into the game, AFC Ajax's Veniamin Kountouratzis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Scarafia Ghost made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. 70 minutes into the match, Go Ahead Eagles's goal looked a bit too open when Alexandros Sardanis came free, but Scarafia Ghost reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 73 minutes into the game, Go Ahead Eagles's Iustin Bâru nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Iustin Bâru took a quick shot and it went in 3-4 without a chance for Saruhan Vuralhan to make any attempt to save it. Saruhan Vuralhan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Iustin Bâru in the 84th minute. Iustin Bâru's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 89thth minute, Saruhan Vuralhan skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 90 minutes into the match, Iustin Bâru dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Saruhan Vuralhan, 3-5. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Go Ahead Eagles eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
