Sheriff's Yahia van der Saar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexandros Sardanis in the 18th minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Emmanouil Paltopoulos came free, but Saruhan Vuralhan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Saruhan Vuralhan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Damaso Xacintu in the 26th minute of play. AFC Ajax's Veniamin Kountouratzis was substituted for Li Kuan Hong. AFC Ajax's Aleksander Petka was substituted for Aureo Morera. Sheriff made a substitution. Kutay Erbaş replaced Aris Bonoris. Sheriff were awarded a corner in the 61th minute after AFC Ajax's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Akakios Trachanas took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Akakios Trachanas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Saruhan Vuralhan quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 66 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Damaso Xacintu came free, but Saruhan Vuralhan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67th minute, Iason Stoltidis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Veniamin Kountouratzis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Yahia van der Saar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Clayton Gol's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Saruhan Vuralhan was relentless in the 71st minute of the game. After some careless play in the Sheriff defense, Michelangelo Merganiotis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Yahia van der Saar. The Sheriff fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Yahia van der Saar should have stopped the shot. 78 minutes into the game, Markos Seremetidis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Yahia van der Saar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 85 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's goalkeeper Saruhan Vuralhan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Clayton Gol. 92 minutes had been played when some careless play by AFC Ajax's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Akakios Trachanas was slow to take the kick. During this time Sheriff's players had a chance to rest. A very nice done corner allowed Kutay Erbaş to score against Saruhan Vuralhan in AFC Ajax's goal. 2-4 after 93 minutes.
