Luxembourg's Karlheinz Ludecke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Conner Carragher in the 35th minute of play. If Wladimir Wasilewski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bryant Reina showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wladimir Wasilewski, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 46th minute, Klaus Pichler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Australia getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Dallas Dalglish hit a great ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Wladimir Wasilewski to strike the kick off in the second half. Karlheinz Ludecke made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conner Carragher in the 58th minute of play. In the 62nd minute Dallas Dalglish shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karlheinz Ludecke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Australia's Ray Hayward was substituted for Dallas Dalglish. After having played for 67 minutes, Wladimir Wasilewski managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Luxembourg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wladimir Wasilewski was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cherry Evans recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Cherry Evans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luxembourg's Miguel Sanches was substituted for Wladimir Wasilewski. Karlheinz Ludecke showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cherry Evans in the 74th minute of the match. Oliver Rizzo made in the 76th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Luxembourg's Klaus Pichler. 77 minutes into the match, Australia's goalkeeper Bryant Reina had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Miguel Sanches. After a rather tough play, Luxembourg's Frank Schubert got a free kick in the 78th minute. Luxembourg's Karlheinz Ludecke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmundson Colling in the 89th minute of play. Karlheinz Ludecke took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ray Hayward, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cherry Evans in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Karlheinz Ludecke prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
