After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Edgardo Alas got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Yasir Chavez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustin Nunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Cristian Villanueva made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Marcos Padilla sent off a good shot on target. Marcos Padilla took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cristian Villanueva. Cristian Villanueva dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Yasir Chavez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Richard Ayala's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute Marcos Padilla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristian Villanueva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Yasir Chavez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Richard Ayala in the 19th minute of play. El Salvador's Cristian Villanueva proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save El Salvador from getting a goal against them. Richard Verdugo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cristian Villanueva read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. In the 27thth minute of the game Agustin Nunes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Honduras's Yasir Chavez was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Yasir Chavez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Richard Ayala's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. After 40 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Mauro Medina. Agustin Bran struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Cristian Villanueva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Honduras. After 43 minutes, Marcos Padilla made it 3-0 with a short kick to the right side. El Salvador's Cristian Villanueva tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

El Salvador made a substitution. Mario Villalobos replaced Edgardo Alas. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marcos Padilla made a kick off. Yasir Chavez made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Richard Ayala sent off a good shot on target. In the 54th minute Rafael Erazo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristian Villanueva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cristian Villanueva didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marcos Padilla went, in the 55th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. If Marcos Padilla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Honduras booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guillermo Muñoz didn't get a good kick on the ball. El Salvador's Carlos Murgas was substituted for Agustin Nunes. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Guillermo Muñoz got a free kick in the 64th minute. El Salvador's Cristian Villanueva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcos Padilla in the 65th minute of play. If Marcos Padilla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcos Padilla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Cristian Villanueva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Villanueva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Erazo in the 78th minute of the match. El Salvador's Cristian Villanueva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcos Padilla in the 79th minute of play. With 82 minutes on the clock, Mauro Medina commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Cristian Villanueva had in the 85thth minute some difficulties stopping Juan Flamenco's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The excitement rose when Honduras's Juan Flamenco after 86 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for El Salvador's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 5-0. Cristian Villanueva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joselito Carranza in the 91st minute of play. After 93rd play minutes Ronald Sandoval shot 6-0, a short shot which went by Cristian Villanueva and just under the crossbar into goal. Cristian Villanueva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ronald Sandoval in the 98th minute of the match.
