The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute, Peer Stocker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 9th minute of the match Germany got a corner. Austria's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jost Pfeffer ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Germany's corner Antoine Kiehl fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Bastian Pretzer quite easily take care of the ball. With splendid footwork Antoine Kiehl arrived in front of goal to shoot 1-0 by the left pole in the game's 9th minute. 13 minutes into the match, Germany's goal looked a bit too open when Peer Stocker came free, but Wolffram Lanzinger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Adrian Kleppinger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Germany's zone, Peer Stocker stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wolffram Lanzinger came out of the goal and Peer Stocker tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Austria's Bastian Pretzer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Austria from getting a goal against them. Bastian Pretzer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Antoine Kiehl in the 25th minute. Adrian Kleppinger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Bastian Pretzer made a huge save. After 37 minutes Austria's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jost Pfeffer who took care of the corner kick. 40 minutes into the match, Austria's goalkeeper Bastian Pretzer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Antoine Kiehl. Bastian Pretzer was a little too slow when Antoine Kiehl got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 42nd minute. The score was now 2-0. Germany's Bud Avcı was substituted for Antoine Kiehl. Germany's Wolffram Lanzinger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peer Stocker in the 46th minute of play. After some careless play in the Germany defense, Andre Kalvelage kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wolffram Lanzinger. The Germany fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wolffram Lanzinger should have stopped the shot.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Peer Stocker was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Austria booed when Germany was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jost Pfeffer didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wolffram Lanzinger made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Peer Stocker in the 55th minute of play. Bastian Pretzer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Niko Kobelt in the 57th minute of the match. When Germany's Niko Kobelt in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Austria's goalie prevented a goal. Niko Kobelt might have been able to make a better finish in the 63rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bastian Pretzer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Niko Kobelt ran back to his position shaking his head. Bastian Pretzer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Kleppinger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Andre Kalvelage could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Wolffram Lanzinger made a huge save. 70 minutes into the match, Austria's goal looked a bit too open when Niko Kobelt came free, but Bastian Pretzer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hermann Tillemann kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Hermann Tillemann hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. After having played for 79 minutes, Andre Kalvelage managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Austria's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andre Kalvelage was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Austria's Mario Meyers was substituted for Dominik Jensen. 89 minutes into the game, Boris Harm cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Bastian Pretzer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Austria made a substitution. Sascha-Andreas Lau replaced Peter Mundanjohl. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Andre Kalvelage in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wolffram Lanzinger prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Germany players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
