Jonathan Aznar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michal Adam in the 15th minute of play. Jonathan Aznar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ondřej Škvára in the 18th minute of the match. If Michal Adam had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ondřej Škvára fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Aznar having to interfere. In the 29th minute of the match, Ciro Munio got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ruslan Kolín was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Mexico were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after Czech Republic's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Teo Olando took the corner. The corner led to Mexico's Natalio Geofredo getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 35th minute Michal Adam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Aznar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 36th minute of the match Czech Republic got a corner. Mexico's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dalibor Patka ran over to the corner to take the kick. Czech Republic's Jaromír Oliva was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jonathan Aznar in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Jonathan Aznar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Michal Adam, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Saul Pietro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Ruslan Kolín tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Saul Pietro couldn't finish the play. Mexico made a substitution.
