Spectators: 167 (Terracing: 126, Seating: 38, VIP seats: 3) Wellington Phoenix's Wei Yao Sha started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Wellington Phoenix's Wei Yao Sha in the 3rd minute got a chance for a shot 3rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Recolta Alamor's goalie prevented a goal. After 3 minutes, Wei Yao Sha made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Recolta Alamor's Grigore Proca tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Norman Donnelly kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. In the 10th minute, Egídio de Almeida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vladimir Couto during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Norman Donnelly's shot from long distance in the 13th minute was not bad at all, but Wellington Phoenix's Leonel Barros knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. Leonel Barros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Norman Donnelly, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes into the game, Norman Donnelly recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Leonel Barros. Norman Donnelly showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. The crowd rose to their feet as Recolta Alamor's Norman Donnelly slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Leonel Barros. That made the score 2-1 after 23 minutes of play. The audience was convinced that Wei Yao Sha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Grigore Proca was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. With a little luck, Wellington Phoenix's Leonel Barros got control of the ball when Blaine Schaffer tried to sneak it across the goal line. Grigore Proca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erivaldo Pernambucano in the 38th minute of play. In the 39th minute, Egídio de Almeida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 43rd minute, Recolta Alamor's Phil Riggs seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Phil Riggs the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Recolta Alamor protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Phil Riggs had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 42nd minute of the game. One of Recolta Alamor:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Wellington Phoenix:s goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Blaine Schaffer to make the kick off. A collision led to Recolta Alamor getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Chance Tatum hit a great ball. Teofilo Unai scored 2-4 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Grigore Proca, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 66th minute of the match Recolta Alamor got a corner. Wellington Phoenix's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Norman Donnelly ran over to the corner to take the kick. 70 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's goal looked a bit too open when Mohammed Sprague came free, but Leonel Barros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erivaldo Pernambucano in the 72nd minute of play forced Recolta Alamor's goalkeeper Grigore Proca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, Teofilo Unai took a quick shot and it went in 2-5 without a chance for Grigore Proca to make any attempt to save it. Wellington Phoenix's Luizão Castro was substituted for Wei Yao Sha. After a defensive mix-up in Recolta Alamor's zone, Teofilo Unai stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Grigore Proca came out of the goal and Teofilo Unai tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The nice shot from Luizão Castro in the 81stth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Grigore Proca had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. Grigore Proca was a little too slow when Erivaldo Pernambucano got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 85th minute. The score was now 2-6. Erivaldo Pernambucano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Grigore Proca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Grigore Proca didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erivaldo Pernambucano went, in the 91st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-7 was the resulting score. Leonel Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mohammed Sprague in the 95th minute of play. In the 96th minute, Egídio de Almeida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the final whistle went the supporters of Wellington Phoenix were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Recolta Alamor side.
