In the 17th minute Egídio de Almeida shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edilberto Beguellina saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Erivaldo Pernambucano scored 0-2 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Edilberto Beguellina, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Wellington Phoenix's Leonel Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gorka Astola in the 22nd minute of play. Wei Yao Sha could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Edilberto Beguellina made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teofilo Unai in the 64th minute of play forced Unikurdos United F.C.'s goalkeeper Edilberto Beguellina to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
