An unexpectedly hard shot by Geoff Ackerman in the 22nd minute of play forced Sporting Clube de Gaya's goalkeeper Donato Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Connor Presley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mustapha Hadji during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sporting Clube de Gaya's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Atlético Patoruzu the free kick. After a rather tough play, Sporting Clube de Gaya's Gonçalo Coelho got a free kick in the 34th minute. Merle Tomlinson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Donato Viana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Atlético Patoruzu's Ruben Crandall got a free kick in the 45th minute. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ivaylo Yordanov was the one to do the kick off. Waldo Hills tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Atlético Patoruzu's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Sporting Clube de Gaya had won, even though Atlético Patoruzu had held more of the ball.
