Argentina's Lev Yashin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arthur Clarke in the 11th minute of play. After some careless play in the Argentina defense, Arthur Clarke kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lev Yashin. The Argentina fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lev Yashin should have stopped the shot. 14 minutes into the match, Romania's goal looked a bit too open when Loco Durazno came free, but Niculae Ailenei reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Argentina getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Ceferino Nalo hit a great ball. Manuel Isăilă blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lev Yashin having to make a save. Romania's defense didn't have a chance, in the 24th minute, when Loco Durazno scored to the left of an out of position Niculae Ailenei, making the score, 1-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Loco Durazno in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Niculae Ailenei prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Manuel Isăilă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lev Yashin having to interfere. Argentina's Benedicto Naelio was substituted for Loco Durazno. In the 46th minute Arthur Clarke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lev Yashin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Benedicto Naelio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Niculae Ailenei took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benedicto Naelio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arthur Clarke got free with Lev Yashin in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Manuel Isăilă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Romania's Horea Boian was substituted for Emanuel Mălăele. When Argentina's Gregorio Urtsin in the 73rd minute got a chance for a shot 73rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Romania's goalie prevented a goal. When the match clock showed 73 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Gregorio Urtsin sped through Romania's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Niculae Ailenei. Manuel Isăilă might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lev Yashin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Manuel Isăilă ran back to his position shaking his head. 77 minutes into the match, Argentina's goalkeeper Lev Yashin had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Manuel Isăilă. With an all-out effort, Romania's Lev Yashin threw himself towards the right post 82 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Arthur Clarke, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Niculae Ailenei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benedicto Naelio in the 86th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benedicto Naelio in the 89th minute of play forced Romania's goalkeeper Niculae Ailenei to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Niculae Ailenei made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benedicto Naelio in the 90th minute of play. In the 91st minute, Benedicto Naelio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
