The audience was convinced that Patrik Giliusson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sylwester Zarobski was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Valdemar de Amaral could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Per-Erik Biörk made a huge save. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Robíño Football Club's Kent Bergkvist was substituted for Edgar Stenman. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Patrik Giliusson to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho booed when Robíño Football Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kent Bergkvist didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 58 played minutes Robíño Football Club got a freekick which was hit by Claes Pååk. Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho's Gilmar Romero got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Neither Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho or Robíño Football Club succeeded in finding a winner during the second half. That meant the players faced another 30 minutes of extra-time.

After the break the players went out on the field to play the first half of overtime with revived energy in their legs. Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho's Valdemar de Amaral started the play with the initial kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 101st minute, Ma Xi Kang managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho's supporters rose to their feet, but Ma Xi Kang was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Per-Erik Biörk breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee signaled the end of the first half of extra-time the score was 0-0. The players had a chance to rest for a moment before the second half.

Both teams seemed ready to fight when Robíño Football Club's Patrik Giliusson did the kick off and started the second half in the overtime. Sylwester Zarobski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Allan Berglund in the 120th minute of play. After 30 minutes of extra-time there was still no winner. The players now faced the much dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Per-Erik Biörk had in the 138thth minute some difficulties stopping Claes Pååk's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The goalkeeper, Per-Erik Biörk, was totally fooled by Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho's Valdemar de Amaral, who 139 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 140th minute there was a penalty for Robíño Football Club. Per-Erik Biörk stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Sylwester Zarobski. 2-2. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Grêmio Esportivo 20 Julho fans cheered their team off the field, for while Robíño Football Club had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
