Jim Mitchell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mitxel Abrego, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jimmy Coulter hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. When Aloisio Santander fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Downchester City's protests and gave Aloisio Santander a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Downchester City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aloisio Santander didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jim Mitchell was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Mitxel Abrego showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 26 minute of play. With 28 minutes on the clock, Sergio Rodríguez commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Jim Mitchell made a fantastic save in the 45th minute, when Aloisio Santander sent off a good shot on target. Xepe Gandia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kris Marks in the 46th minute of play. Mitxel Abrego received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jim Mitchell came out and tried to block the shot, but Mitxel Abrego slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 47th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Giuseppe Jewell made a kick off. After 52 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Giuseppe Jewell. Jim Mitchell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aloisio Santander in the 63rd minute of play. In the 65th minute, Froilan Muelas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kris Marks could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Xepe Gandia made a huge save. If Mitxel Abrego had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
