Esteve Blanco made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Igor Erruki got free with Jose Cordarell in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
