Ali Thomson went to the wrong direction when Hector McCarthy was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. The supporters of Menlo booed when Parma was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. George Galindo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ted McClain hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Lu Guang Zhen scored 1-1 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ali Thomson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Menlo's Ned Turner got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 27 minutes into the match, Menlo's goal looked a bit too open when Enzo Gourlay came free, but Ali Thomson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
