Cesar Luke took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ceferino Larpe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 7 minutes had been played when some careless play by Peñarol FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Atilano Belo was slow to take the kick. During this time Independiente's players had a chance to rest. Ceferino Larpe might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cesar Luke. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ceferino Larpe ran back to his position shaking his head. The crowd rose to their feet as Ceferino Larpe kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cesar Luke. That made the score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. In the 16th match minute, Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Desiderio Bizi to maneuver through the defense. 22 minutes into the game, Leo Oskarbi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Cirilo Tabby was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 25 played minutes Peñarol FC got a freekick which was hit by Delmiro Efraim. Cesar Luke showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ceferino Larpe, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Ceferino Larpe charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ceferino Larpe the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Independiente getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Ceferino Larpe hit a great ball. In the 31st minute Leo Oskarbi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cirilo Tabby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cesar Luke showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ceferino Larpe, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Clemente Ezkerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cesar Luke having to interfere. Leandro Transito kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ceferino Larpe in the 43rd minute of play forced Peñarol FC's goalkeeper Cesar Luke to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ceferino Larpe in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cesar Luke prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Leo Oskarbi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 53rd minute of the match Baldomero Gauargi shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cesar Luke showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Leo Oskarbi struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Cirilo Tabby didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peñarol FC. If Leo Oskarbi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ceferino Larpe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Cesar Luke tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cesar Luke came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by Independiente's Ceferino Larpe. But to his dismay, Ceferino Larpe quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Clemente Ezkerra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Cesar Luke tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Clemente Ezkerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cesar Luke having to interfere. A collision led to Peñarol FC getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Fernando Tomi hit a great ball. Ceferino Larpe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 93 minutes of play, Independiente's Leandro Transito made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cesar Luke was left in no man's land by his defense there! It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Independiente had played much better football throughout.
