After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Renny McWilliam managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cork's supporters rose to their feet, but Renny McWilliam was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 23rd minute of the game. One of Cork:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Rathmolyon Utd:s goal. In the 26th minute there was a penalty for Rathmolyon Utd. Irwin McSteven stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Gearalt Barrett. 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Cork's zone, Bran Byrne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gearalt Barrett came out of the goal and Bran Byrne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 37th minute, Dermot Jameson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Justin Rutherford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Rathmolyon Utd had won after a very even match.
