In the 14th minute, Tassilo Schläfli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 1. FC Vatikan's Leonello Henseler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Allan Perktold in the 19th minute of play. Eugen Uliassi hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. 26 minutes into the match, John Schenker sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Silvester Alessandro threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for John Schenker this time. Patrick Bregenzer scored 2-0 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Silvester Alessandro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 31st minute Allan Perktold shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonello Henseler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when John Schenker got free with Silvester Alessandro in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John Schenker couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in 1. FC Vatikan's zone, Matt Rösli stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonello Henseler came out of the goal and Matt Rösli tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 88 minutes into the match, 1. FC Vatikan's John Schenker sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Silvester Alessandro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 91 minutes into the match, 1. The 1. FC Vatikan fans cheered their team off the field, for while Winterthur had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
