The supporters of U21 Romania booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Delyan Tzenov didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12th minute, Robert Levandowsky left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Bulgaria fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Levandowsky in the 17th minute of play forced U21 Romania's goalkeeper Dacian Cârju to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 19 minutes into the match, U21 Bulgaria's goalkeeper Nikolay Bonkov had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marius Macovei. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marius Macovei got free with Nikolay Bonkov in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Bulgaria's Nikolay Bonkov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gandalf Bilbo in the 24th minute of play. Nikolay Bonkov made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gandalf Bilbo in the 27th minute. In the 29th minute Yonko Devendzhiev shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dacian Cârju saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Robert Levandowsky was the one to do the kick off. Marius Macovei's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nikolay Bonkov read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. Dacian Cârju made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Volodya Bekriev in the 58th minute of play. Gandalf Bilbo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Nikolay Bonkov tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. U21 Romania made a substitution. Niculae Miclescu replaced Marius Macovei. Dacian Cârju took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Yonko Devendzhiev, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Apostol Búlgarov received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dacian Cârju came out and tried to block the shot, but Apostol Búlgarov slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 64th minute. After 69 played minutes U21 Romania got a freekick which was hit by Manuel Marchidan. Dacian Cârju made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Robert Levandowsky sent off a good shot on target. After 78 played minutes U21 Romania got a freekick which was hit by Gandalf Bilbo. After 80 played minutes U21 Romania got a freekick which was hit by Niculae Miclescu. Niculae Miclescu blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nikolay Bonkov having to make a save.
